West Withy Farm was The Times’ chosen holiday accommodation on Exmoor for a stargazing break.
West Withy Farm cottages on the eastern site of Exmoor is a specialist stargazing location. Located in a shallow valley, it has minimal light pollution with good sky visibility in all directions to the horizon. Nearest neighbours are over half a mile away. Cottage gardens and the grounds at West Withy Farm have permanent bases for scopes and tripods.
West Withy Farm also acts as the West Country hire base for telescopes from Dark Sky Telescope Hire. If guests prefer not to bring their own scopes, then telescopes (with sky notes) can be hired from Dark Sky Telescope Hire at the farm – you can book to hire a scope when you book a cottage.
Telescopes from Dark Sky Telescope Hire can also be hired from Exmoor National Park visitor centres in Dulverton, Dunster and Lynmouth.
For guests and visitors new to stargazing, Seb Jay of Dark Sky Telescope Hire can be booked to give a laser guided skytour – a personal guided tour of stars, nebula and galaxies from the comfort of your own cottage garden or your chosen destination on Exmoor.
